Switch on AI phone ordering.

The phone is the order you keep missing. It rings during the rush, nobody can reach it, and the caller hangs up and tries the place down the road. AI phone ordering answers that line for you, takes the order in a real conversation, and puts it in front of your kitchen. Here is how to turn it on.

What AI phone ordering does

When a customer calls, the AI picks up your line and greets them by your restaurant's name. It then takes the order the way a good host would: it listens, answers questions about dishes, reads back what was said, and confirms the total. When the call ends, the order drops into the same Orders tab as your QR orders, so your team works one screen and one flow, not two.

The practical win is simple. The phone stops ringing out during your busiest hour. The orders your team could never get to start landing on their own, while your staff stay on the floor and in the pass instead of running to a handset.

Included on every plan.Phone ordering comes with every Voitly plan, each with a monthly bundle of minutes built in: 450 on Starter, 1,350 on Restaurant, and 3,600 on Multi / Pro (about 150, 450, and 1,200 calls). Past your bundle, usage bills at a flat 20 cents per minute, never per call.

Turn it on, step by step

The whole thing takes a few minutes. Work through these in order:

  1. Open the Phone settings

In your dashboard, go to Settings and open the Phone section. This is where every part of how the AI answers your line lives, and you can come back and change any of it later.

  2. Enable phone ordering

Flip the toggle to enable phone ordering. Your account is assigned a phone number you can hand out, or you can point your existing restaurant number to it so customers keep calling the number they already know.

  3. Choose the AI voice and language

Pick the voice that suits your room and the language your callers speak. If you serve a mixed crowd, the AI can greet in one language and switch if the caller answers in another, so a guest is met in the language they are comfortable with.

  4. Set your operating hours

Tell the AI when you are open. It will only answer during those hours, so nobody calls at 2am and orders a table of food you cannot cook. Outside your hours, callers hear a short message instead.

  5. Set a fallback number (optional)

Add a number the AI can transfer to when a call needs a human, such as a large booking, a complaint, or a question the AI is not set up to answer. Most owners point this at the host stand or a manager's mobile.

  6. Place a test call

Before service, call the number yourself and order a dish end to end. Listen to the greeting, place a small order, and confirm it. Then open the Orders tab and watch it appear. One test call tells you everything is wired up before a real customer ever rings.

What a call sounds like for the caller

From the customer's side, it feels like calling a calm, attentive restaurant. The AI greets them by your restaurant's name, lets them know the call is recorded so there are no surprises, and then asks what they would like. The caller orders in plain speech, asks questions if they want, and the AI reads the order back and confirms it with a spoken order number they can hold on to. No menus to navigate, no "press one for", just a conversation.

Where the order lands

Every phone order arrives in the Orders tab, exactly like a QR order, with the items, any notes, and a source label that reads as phone so your team knows where it came from. From there it follows the same path your team already runs: new, to cooking, to ready, to served, with a tap at each step. Nobody has to learn a new screen.

Transfers to a human

The AI is built to take orders well, not to handle everything. When a caller asks for something it cannot do, it hands the call off to the fallback number you set. The caller is passed to a real person without being dumped or asked to call back, so the handful of calls that truly need you still reach you.

Review your first few calls.Open the call log after your first shift with phone ordering on and listen back to a few calls. You will hear small things worth tuning, like a greeting that runs long or a dish name worth clarifying. Five minutes of listening makes the next hundred calls smoother.

A note on cost

To be straight with you: past your plan’s included minutes, extra usage draws from prepaid credit you top up, at a flat 20 cents a minute, never charged to your card automatically. A typical order call runs about three minutes, well under the value of an order you would otherwise have lost. The exact terms for your plan are laid out in Plans and billing.
